LEED Sustainable Green Home Design

December 22nd, 2008  |  Published in Galleries, News

With the rising cost of fuels, and increased interest in alternative forms of energy and “green” design, we are pledging in the new year to include more sustainable design principles in our projects. There are many ways homes can be made more sustainable, including the use of solar energy, (passive, photovolataic and hot water), geothermal HVAC systems, tighter insulated building envelopes, and recycled and renewable finishes. New technology and products are constantly being developed which make sustainable design mainstream and cost-effective, and there are tax incentives available for homeowners who persue efficiency improvements.

Clients may choose to persue a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification process for new homes and renovations; we are partnering with construction management firms and landscape designers who can help achieve this goal. There may be more incentives and programs available in the near future for energy efficient home construction and retrofitting.
This is an exciting time for home design!
